On Saturday 15 April tall ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl returns to Bergen and this marks the start of the first annual One Ocean Week. The city centre of Bergen will be one big festival of ocean related events. This page shows the University of Bergen's activities during the week. All activities are free and open to all, except where otherwise indicated.
Statsraad Lehmkuhl is wrapping up the One Ocean Expedition, a circumnavigation of Earth, and will return to Bergen 15 April 2023 and kickstarting One Ocean Week 15-22 April.

The University of Bergen was the first partner to board the One Ocean Expedition. During tall ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl's circumavigation of Earth from August 2021 to April 2023, the university has been the main actor on deck. With Statsraad Lehmkuhl's returning to Bergen, the University of Bergen is proud to announce a number of events throughout One Ocean Week 15-22 April 2023. All events are free to attend and open to the everyone. We hope to see you!
Friday 14 April
- 14:00-16:00听Tasting session at Lysverket restaurant:听Blue foods for health and sustainability. NOTE! Registration required. Cost NOK 350 for each participant.
- 17:00-20:00听Opening of the exhibition听Climate Narratives: Ocean stories, Fiji and Greenland听at Lysverket/KODE. Exhibition ends 7 May 2023. .
Saturday 15 April
- 10:00-12:00听Tall ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl returns to Bergen from its circumnavigation of Earth 鈥� the One Ocean Expedition. The University of Bergen has been the main sponsor of the expedition, with both students and scientists taking part in the voyage. We look forward to welcoming Statsraad Lehmkuhl听home! .
Sunday 16 April
- 10:00-16:00听Family day at Bryggen. The University of Bergen will show examples of ocean science. .
Monday 17 April
- All day: One Ocean Expedition Summit. .
- 09:30-10:30听. Professor Katja Enberg and students participating in the unique SDG200 course from Valparaiso in Chile to the tiny island state of Palau. This is part of Bergen Aquarium's programme during One Ocean Week. NOTE! In Norwegian.
Tuesday 18 April
- 18:00-19:00听Ocean Science Bar at Statsraaden Bar & Reception - Students and the Pacific.听Meet students and scientists from the One Ocean Expedition discuss their experiences crossing the Pacific. Photos, film and discussion on the knowledge gained and what it's like to live in close quarters on board a tall ship for four months.
- 18:00-19:30听Ocean Futures: an ocean of opportunity. This high level event brings together diplomats, policy makers, scientists, and other stakeholders to discuss how to sustainable explore and exploit the treasures of the ocean to create an ocean of opportunity.
- 20:00-21:30听Climate change in the Pacific Islands and the Caribbean: young voices.听Five young climate scientists from Fiji, Jamaica, and Canada discuss how sea level rise and climate change affect the lives in small island developing states in the Pacific and Caribbean.
Wednesday 19 April
- 08:30-16:00: . GCE Ocean Technology is organising a full day event to discuss the challenges and opportunities in deep sea mining. REV Ocean Director Nina Jensen and 幸运飞艇计划 scientists Rolf Birger Pedersen and Pedro Ribeiro are among the speakers. NOTE! Pre-registration required! Registration fee NOK 650.
- 09:00-14:00听Bergen Aquarium, the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research and the University of Bergen invite schools in Bergen on board Statsraad Lehmkuhl during One Ocean Week. . NOTE! In Norwegian.
- 18:00-19:00听Ocean Science Bar at Statsraaden Bar & Reception - Ocean, Climate and Fish. A conversation with leading international experts on the future of fish.
- 20:00-22:00听Ocean Talanoa: Cross-cultural storytelling from the Pacific. Students from Norway and the Pacific discuss the ocean, climate change and the importance of cross-cultural meetings to shape a more sustainable future.
Thursday 20 April
- 16:00-17:45 At this Horizon's lecture, leading ocean scientist Lisa A. Levin from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography will highlight the deep-sea ecosystems being targeted for seabed mining, take a look at their biodiversity and potential threats and management challenges.听More on the lecture here.
- 18:00-19:00听Ocean Science Bar at Statsraaden Bar & Reception - Food from the ocean. In the third and final Ocean Science Bar during One Ocean Week, we discuss why Norwegians eat less food from the ocean than they did only a few years ago. NOTE! In Norwegian.
