Health Behavior in School-Aged Children (HBSC) started in 1984. Five countries participated in the first round. Since then, the project has grown to become a major cross-nationalÌýsurvey with more than 50 member countries. The survey is conducted every fourthÌýyearÌýamong 11, 13 and 15 year old pupils. The purpose is to gather information about schoolchildren's health behaviors and well-being. Data is used for research as well as factual basis for policy making.ÌýThe WHO Regional Office for EuropeÌýis an important partner in the project.
The HBSC Data Management Centre coordinates the work with the international datafile and the trend data, and is the Data Bank for the HBSC-study. The centre distributes data in accordance with the HBSC data access policy.
